Decent purchase, some shipping delay

I ordered 'Brill's Studies in Intellectual History' a few weeks ago. The selection on the site was impressive and I found the specific volume I wanted pretty quickly. The price was fair for an academic text, I thought. Shipping took a little longer than I expected, probably around 8 days to reach me in California, which was a minor inconvenience since I was hoping to start reading it sooner. The packaging was sturdy though, and the book arrived in perfect condition. Customer service didn't need to be contacted, so no experience there. Overall, I'm satisfied with the quality of the book and the purchase process, even with the small shipping hiccup.

Good book, took a bit long

I bought 'Brill's Companions to the Classical Tradition' last month. The website was easy enough to use, found the book without trouble. It took about a week and a half to get to me, which felt a little slow. The book itself is really good quality though, and it was exactly what I needed for my research.

Does Brill do student discounts? I'm trying to get a few books for my research and those prices add up quick.

O Olivia Harris 6 days ago
Yes, they definitely do! I got one myself last semester. You usually have to verify your student status, but it's worth it.

I think so, I've seen it mentioned. Check their site, there's usually a specific page for it or a link in the FAQs.

Are Brill books usually pretty legit? Like, the quality of the academic stuff, is it top-notch compared to, say, Cambridge or OUP?

E Elizabeth T. 1 week ago
Oh yeah, Brill is totally legit. They're up there with Cambridge and Oxford for sure, especially for specialized humanities and law. Very reputable.

Definitely. I've used their encyclopedias for years. They focus on some really niche academic areas, and their publications are always high quality, peer-reviewed stuff. You can trust them like you would De Gruyter or Routledge.

I'm looking at "The New Pauly" but it's pricey. Do they ever have deals on bigger sets like that? Or should I just bite the bullet?

B Brittany Torres 1 month ago
Keep an eye out during academic conference seasons or holiday sales. Sometimes they'll do bundle deals on entire series or big sets.

I saw a discount on a similar large reference work during their end-of-year sale last December. Might be worth waiting if you're not in a huge rush.

What's the return policy like for Brill books? In case I order something and it's not quite what I needed.

B Brian Phillips 4 weeks ago
I returned an ebook once, it was pretty straightforward. Just contact customer service within a certain timeframe, I think it's 30 days.

Physical books are usually fine for returns too, as long as they're in good condition. Just make sure you initiate the return within their policy window, which I believe is a month or so.

Which payment methods does Brill accept? Just credit cards, or do they do PayPal or anything else?

M Mark Hernandez 1 week ago
They take major credit cards for sure. I think I used Visa last time. Not sure about PayPal, I've never tried that.

Yeah, most standard credit cards work. I believe they list all their accepted methods during checkout, so you'll see your options there.
